Death - Data and Statistics
Many important public health indicators are derived from death certificates. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) receives death certificates for all deaths occurring in the state and also for deaths to Ohio residents which occurred outside the state. These reports are combined into annual statistical data files which are used to calculate the statistics contained in this section of the ODH website. Mortality data are usually presented as counts or population-based rates. Mortality statistics are an important component of public health surveillance and assessment.
