A Month-by-Month Look at Your Pregnancy
Changes to Your Body
- Your weight may increase more than you expect.
- You may see stretch marks as your uterus grows.
- Your blood pressure may rise a little, but tell your health care provider if you get severe headaches, blurred vision or severe swelling of the hands, feet, ankles or face.
- Your uterus is crowding your lungs, so you may find it hard to breathe easily.
Baby's Progress
- Is about 15 inches long.
- Weighs about three pounds.
- His hearing is fully developed.
Do's
- Get lots of rest.
- Stay alert when walking. As your belly gets bigger, you may lose your sense of balance.
- Start childbirth classes with your partner. This may include a tour of the hospital or birthing center.
- Make arrangements for a car seat to transport your child home.
- Choose a doctor for your baby and plan to meet with her before the birth.
- Get your baby's room ready.
Nutritional Tips: Your Baby Needs it Now
- Your baby's nutritional needs are highest now as he gains more than half his birth weight, so eat wisely and well.
- Include foods such as salmon, tuna and eggs in your diet to help with your child's brain and nervous system development.
- Eat foods with vitamins A and C, which are important for your baby's eyes and to help your body absorb iron. Some examples of foods with vitamins A and C include dark green, leafy vegetables, fruits and orange juice.
- Drink plenty of water, it will keep you from getting dangerously dehydrated.
- Remember to take your prenatal vitamins.
Expectant Dads: The Wait is Almost Over
Be prepared for the birth of your child by taking an active role.
You can best prepare by:
- Attending childbirth classes with your partner.
- Making delivery plans together. Be sure to find out what the hospital will allow.
- Supporting your partner. The closer she gets to delivery, the more she will need your support.
