Changes to Your Body
- Your appetite may begin to increase as nausea decreases, although some women may continue to have nausea.
- Because of hormones, your gums may bleed more easily.
- You may have more energy.
- You may experience a slight weight gain.
Baby's Progress
- Her body is fully formed by the end of the first 12 weeks.
- Weighs more than one ounce.
- Is about three to four inches long.
- Moves and can even suck her thumb.
Do's
- Brush your teeth and gums two to three times every day to prevent gum infection.
- Wear your seatbelt when traveling. Adjust the seatbelt by placing the lapbelt section under your stomach and across your upper thighs. Position the shoulder belt between your breasts.
- Get moderate exercise. Check with your doctor or nurse before starting a new program.
- Keep a journal of your pregnancy; you may dream more and those dreams may be more vivid.
Nutritional Hints
- Eat foods that contain iron, because you need more of it to produce more blood to support your growing baby. Examples of iron-rich foods include
- Don't skip meals or diet during pregnancy, because your baby depends on you for good eating.
- Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated.
- Just because it is herbal doesn't mean it's good for you. Some herbs should be avoided during pregnancy. Check with your doctor or nurse before you take anything.
