Car Safety

Beginning with the first ride your baby takes in the car, it is important they feel comfortable and are secure. The rear facing car seat is the safest location in the car for travel. Never go on a car trip with your child unless they are in a safe and secure car seat. Understanding these procedures now is a wonderful way to ensure your baby’s safety in the future. Here are some other tips about car safety:

  • Prior to the birth of your child, purchase a car seat that is easy to operate as well as one that easily fits in your car. The seat should fit securely in the vehicle and not move around at all. Buy a seat that has a seat belt restraint and make sure that your child is securely buckled in as well.
  • Make sure your baby’s car seat is installed correctly!!! Read and exactly follow all the safety instructions that come with the owner’s manual of the car seat.
  • Never place your baby in the front seat!!! Even if your child is secure in their car seat, a deployment force of an airbag could cause severe injury or even death to your child.
  • Do not keep turning around to face your child. It can be very distracting for you as the driver and put you and the baby in a very dangerous situation. If your child needs to be cared for, have another adult sit in the back with them.
  • Remember, the rear facing position is the best position. Wait until they get large enough to put them in a full-size car seat. It is important to check with the manufacturer of the car seat to see what size it sits and if it is a good fit for your child.

Make all of your trips with your baby safe ones. Be sure to make a point to take the time to fasten your baby into their car seat and make sure that they are protected.
