When You Have Morning Sickness
The good news is that your morning sickness will probably go away by the end of your third month, but you know what the bad news is: you feel terrible.
Try these things and see if they help your morning sickness:
- Sit quietly or lie down when you feel like you might throw up.
- Move very slowly. Don’t make sudden movements. Get out of bed or out of a chair SLOWLY.
- Eat some dry toast, crackers or dry cereal about 10 minutes before you get out of bed.
- Eat. Keep something in your stomach. An empty stomach can make you feel worse.
- Eat five or six small meals during the day. If you are on the go, take some food along.
- Just the smell of food cooking can make you sick. Open the windows. Could someone else cook? How about meals that don’t need cooking? Have cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and a salad with meat and cheese for supper.
- Try not drinking anything when you eat. Wait about an hour to drink something.
- Don’t eat fatty foods! Watch out for gravy, fried chicken, french fries, pastries, pizza, donuts, mayonnaise, butter and margarine.
- Don’t eat fatty meats like bacon, sausage and bologna.
- Watch out for coffee and spicy foods.
- Don’t smoke. Try not to be around other smokers.
- Eat as well as you can. Have starchy foods without fat on them such as rice, noodles, potatoes, whole grain breads. Eat vegetables without adding fat. Try to include fresh fruits, lean meat, beans and low-fat or skim milk.
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially if you are throwing up a lot.
Don't take any medications until you check with your doctor
Morning sickness does not happen just in the morning, sometimes it can be “all-day-long sickness.” However, if it is really bad, talk to your doctor.
