The Ohio Department of Health funds several Regional Infant Hearing Programs (RIHPs) throughout the state of Ohio. These programs provide services to families with babies and toddlers identified with a permanent hearing loss. There is no charge to the family for these services.
RIHPs are designed to meet the needs of the family and service delivery is usually home-based. RIHPs may:
-
Provide weekly home visits that teach families how to communicate with their infants and toddlers through play and daily routines.
-
Present information about available comunication options in a non-biased manner.
-
Make referrals to service providers such as speech-language pathologists, audiologists and physicians.
-
Work with local Help Me Grow programs to ensure that all families receive Part C (birth to age 3) services.
-
Educate and support parents to become advocates for their children.
-
Provide information on available resources for children with hearing loss after the age of 3 years.
Currently, there are 10 regional programs serving families across the state of Ohio. Regardless of where you live in the state, there is a program to serve you and your family. To locate the program in your county, please select the RIHP contact information link located below.
